Hopefully if you are on this page, you are a brewer who has been asked to complete our survey.
Our survey comes in two parts – a technical survey on behalf of CAMRA’s Technical Advisory Group and a questionnaire from our Environmental Working Group. We hope you will complete both parts but they can be completed independently.
There’s some information on the two projects below, but you can jump straight in if you prefer….
Brewing and packaging survey
CAMRA is aware that amongst our membership, the levels of understanding about how modern brewing techniques differ from those of the time when CAMRA was founded vary considerably.
CAMRA’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) realises that modern brewing has moved on from Yorkshire Squares and the Burton Union system. But we also recognise that as an organisation, our internal knowledge of the changes in brewing and packaging techniques lags far behind the wider industry. While TAG includes a number of brewers who share their experiences, we cannot say whether their experience is representative of brewing in the UK in 2022.
This simple survey is part of CAMRA’s desire to better understand brewing today so that we can better advise our colleagues who work on beer and pub campaigning and those whose mission is to educate our members and the general public.
The primary focus of this survey is on brewing plant in use, conditioning and packaging although there are some general questions on other aspects related to ongoing projects within CAMRA. The survey is intentionally simplistic in nature in order to gain an overview of the industry in 2022 without taking up too much of your time. although there are some specific questions related to ongoing projects within CAMRA.
There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers and no hidden agenda to judge brewers on the techniques they use, we only seek to get a better understanding of how many brewers are using the wide variety of processes available to the modern brewer. There is no personal data requested and the information you enter will be used for statistical gathering only – no data specific to your brewery will be published or shared.
Environmental Survey
CAMRA has recently formed an environmental working group to investigate and promote the “green” credentials of the brewing and pub industries. Apart from the fact that brewers (and cider makers) have been into REDUCE/RE-USE/RECYCLE since well before they became environmental buzz words, we hope and believe that the most planet friendly way to enjoy a pint is by drinking locally produced draught/cask beer or cider in a local pub.
The questionnaire is designed to gather information about the environmentally friendly initiatives you carry out so that we can share as many good news stories about the industry as possible. This can range from simple strategies such as re-use of spent ingredients in local agriculture to complex capital projects such as heat recovery, CO2 recovery, solar/green energy sourcing and waste water treatment/re-use.
All we ask is for a few minutes of your time to complete and return this form.
Privacy Statement
No personal identifiable information will be collected by this survey. Your brewery name will be recorded to allow processing of data by brewery size and location. If clarification is required we will contact the brewery through your Brewery Liaison Officer or the local Brewery Liaison Co-ordinator. We may invite some breweries to participate in follow on surveys – you can opt out of future surveys at the end of this survey.
The information you submit will only be used to collate statistical data of the UK brewing industry. Data on individual breweries will not be published, will be stored securely and will not be passed to any third parties.
By completing the surveys, you are consenting to the information your submit being stored and collated.
